4th Grade Social Studies
We are working toward proficiency, so we need the teacher, student, and parent to all work toward this goal. During the month of January we will continue diving deeply into the text through close reading and building vocabulary. Below are the following skills we will cover in Social Studies, so please work with your child on these skills.
Social Studies: European Colonization
Skills:
Summarize the failure of the lost colony of Roanoke and theorize what happened
Explain the cooperation that existed between the colonists and American Indians during the 1600’s and 1700’s, including the fur trade, military alliances, treaties, and cultural interchanges.
Draw conclusions from informational text
Determine the Cause/Effect that led to the Pilgrims’ and Puritans’ settlements in North America
Compare and contrast the Dutch and French settlements
